Doha: Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the Republic of Sudan, H E Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, met yesterday with officials of Qatar Chamber (QC) and Qatari businessmen at Sheraton Hotel.
The meeting was attended by Qatar Chamber Chairman, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani; QC First Vice Chairman, Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar and QC Board Member Dr Mohamed Jawhar Al Mohammed alongside with a number of Qatari businessmen. The meeting also was attended by Sheikh Nayef bin Eid Al Thani.
Also, were present Mohammad Badr Al Sada, CEO of Hassad Food Company, Abdullah Yaqoub from Qatari Diar Company, Nasser bin Abdullah Al Attiyah from Qatar Investment Authority, Misfer Hamad Al Shahwani, Deputy General Manager for projects development, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Nora Khaled from QFDD.
The Sudanese delegation included Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, H E Dr Gebreil Ibrahim Mohamed, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H E Mariam Al Sadiq, alongside with a number of officials.
The meeting touched on reviewing means of enhancing commercial and investment relations between the two brotherly countries and the role of private sector in developing investments and bilateral trade.
Gen. Abdel Fattah Al Burhan praised the strong fraternal relations between both countries, noting that his current visit would play a key role in enhancing cooperation ties between them. Al Burhan invited Qatari businessmen to invest in his country, pointing out that there are many Qatari investments in Sudan but there is a strong desire to expand them from the Sudanese side.
Sudan offers a myriad of investment opportunities that might attract Qatari investors, he said, stressing that his country is working to develop economic legislation to facilitate doing businesses. For his part, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani praised the strong and close relations between both countries, noting that there is a large Sudanese community working in Qatar and contributing to the boom it witnesses.
As for mutual investments, he said that Sudan has been and still an attractive destination for Qatari investors and businessmen, pointing out that there are many successful Qatari investments in electricity and food security, expecting that the coming period would witness more Qatari investments in Sudan which has great potentials that can attract foreign investments.
He also confirmed the Qatar Chamber’s keenness on supporting cooperation between Qatari and Sudanese firms by establishing joint enterprises and commercial alliances that benefit both economies.
“Qatar Chamber is interested in encouraging Qatari businessmen to invest in Sudan and exploring the investment opportunities available there,” he added.
On his part, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim Mohamed presented the investment climate in Sudan, noting that there exists a new law for investment which offers many incentives for foreign investors. He called on Qatar Chamber to organise a visit to Sudan for Qatari businessmen to help them learn more about the investment opportunities galore there.
Mariam Al Sadiq eluded the close relations between both countries, expressing the hope that these ties would contribute to developing their commercial and investment cooperation.
For his part, Mohamed bin Twar said that Qatari businessmen are interested in investing in Sudan, stressing that it offers a lot of prominent opportunities in many sectors such as agriculture and food security.
