MEC & Qatar Scientific Club host meeting on protection of intellectual property

DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce in collaboration with Qatar Scientific Club organised a conference for innovators at the club’s headquarters with the participation of a number of stakeholders in the Ministry of Economy.

The conference is part of the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and Qatar Science Club, aiming at establishing a culture of intellectual property rights in the local community, targeting innovators, and enabling them to preserve their inventions, to develop their skills and encourage them to innovate, and to enable them to gain practical and professional experience that allows them to protect their inventions.

During the conference, innovators were introduced to beginner’s guide, which includes the most important facts about intellectual property and the fundamental role it plays in our daily lives, They were also introduced to the intellectual property rights sections where the first section includes industrial property, which covers the fields of patents, utility models, trade names, Industrial models, geographical indications, as well as plant varieties, while the second section includes the intellectual property of copyright and related rights.

The conference stressed the importance of intellectual property, and the importance of registering and preserving property rights in support of national industries and products.

During the conference, innovators and inventors were briefed on the initiatives of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce to adopt the highest international standards in the field of intellectual property rights, and providing an integrated electronic system of high quality to support and enable the owners of trademarks, inventors, innovators, authors and owners, to preserve their rights and protect their work and inventions.

The Executive Director of Qatar Scientific Club, Hareb Al Jabri, said that the conference aims to achieve the mission of the club, which focuses on the empowerment and awareness of youth, and providing an innovative and attractive scientific environment that enables young people to learn and innovate to serve the Qatari community, it is also a part of the national innovation support program launched earlier this year by the club to support innovators with the idea of implementing a tangible, marketable model, adding that the awareness of the importance of intellectual property is one of the club’s goals aiming to motivate young people and to encourage innovation.
