Doha: Al Rayan Municipality conducted 1,015 inspections of eateries in February and destroyed food unfit for human consumption, including 1,352kg  of meat, and removed four sheep from a slaughter house and 3,981 food packages from various outlets.
The campaign was conducted by inspectors from the Health Control Department.
Food stores, beauty parlours and public gardens were inspected as the civic body is enforcing the food monitoring law.
Violating outlets are fined for closed down or both.
In case of repeat violations, the punishment is double and the licence of an outlet may be revoked.
Inspectors are also monitoring eateries in hotels and clubs.
The municipality has initiated an inspection campaign for special events like festivals and the law does not differentiate between big hotels or small eating joints.
The campaign includes regular visits and surprise inspection of eateries, especially in commercial centres, and beauty parlours.
Outlets given temporary licences to serve food during festivals are also being monitored.
