DOHA: About 100 global companies from 18 countries are expected to participate in the first Qatar International Exhibition to build and equip stadiums, to be held at Qatar National Convention Centre in June.
The Pavillion Company for Organisation of Exhibitions and Conferences said yesterday preparations are in full swing.
The company is in the process of giving approval for participation of 18 countries which applied to book spaces for their big companies.
Issa Mohammed Mubarak Al Darwish (pictured), Chairman, Board of Pavillion, said the idea to organise the exhibition came out of the keenness to contribute and provide all capabilities at the highest levels in all fields, including sports as Qatar has become a Middle East destination to organise championships such as the recent Handball competition. The series of championships will reach its apex in the FIFA World Cup of 2022.
He said so far 18 countries with more than one company, have applied for large areas at the exhibition.
“We were surprised that some countries applied to book 28,000sqm for their companies though the designated area is 15,000sqm only.
“We have to put in place standards to select companies participating in the exhibition,” said Al Darwish.
He explained that international reputation and the ability to render services will be the main criteria for selecting the participants.
Al Darwish emphasised the national orientation of the exhibition and the priority given to national companies.
The number of global companies in the event is expected to reach 100 that are specialised in construction and commissioning of auditoriums, besides e-companies able to transform stadiums into environment-friendly ones with ultra modern standards. As for hospitality and guest reception services, he said work is ongoing with the first- tier hotels in Doha to host delegations.
Once arrangements are ready they will be posted on the websites in Arabic and English so that all prices of services are available for companies keen to participate. As for VIPs, the organising company will book suites.
Al Darwish said seminars and discussions will be held on the sidelines on economic and investment circumstances in Qatar and the world with the participation of experts in real estate, market and tourism.
Discussions with government officials on services and prestigious projects on the way to 2022 will also be held.
