DOHA: Former Egypt boss Hassan Shehata, who led them to three African Nations Cup titles, has been sacked as Al Arabi coach, after only six League games in charge, the Qatar Stars League (QSL) club announced.

The 63-year-old took charge of former League champions Arabi in October after leaving native side Zamalek.

Arabi are yet to win a game in the QSL this season and are currently languishing at the bottom of the table with just four points from nine games.

Shehata took over the coaching reins from Frenchman Pierre Lechantre, but he failed to make any impact on the club.

The club has only a limited player pool, after several experienced players walked out over the last few seasons.

They yet again failed to get the right kind of overseas players.

Shehata spoke about changing some players during the January transfer window.

The Arabi Sports Club President Hitmi bin Ali Al Hitmi had last week said that Shehata was their man and the club would get back to winning ways.

But the axe fell on him, reportedly, for failing to accept the management’s decision to choose a couple of overseas players he had wanted.

Reserve team coach Abdulaziz Benij will yet again be the caretaker coach.
