Doha, Qatar: The South African Business Association in Qatar (SABAQ) proudly launched its inaugural networking brunch on Saturday, 4 October 2025, at Fauchon Café, Kempinski Hotel, The Pearl, Doha.

The event brought together South African entrepreneurs and business leaders to explore opportunities in Qatar’s dynamic market, fostering collaboration and mutual support.

With Qatar’s thriving business landscape, interconnected community, and robust start-up ecosystem, attendees were encouraged to invest locally.

During a SABAQ led panel Q&A, a funding topic discussion between SABAQ Liaison Officer, Matthew Kretzmann and an invited guest Cameron Bain transpired, where Bain said “You are one conversation away from changing your future”.

Kretzmann, a visionary executive with over a decade of experience in the Middle East, emphasized the mutual benefits for South African businesses and Qatar. “South Africans have much to offer Qatar, and vice versa. However, as newcomers, many still need guidance on navigating regulatory frameworks and economical volatility to establish sustainable businesses here.”

SABAQ aims to bridge this gap by supporting South African entrepreneurs and businesses in Qatar and South Africa, facilitating connections with local entities, and sharing knowledge across sectors.

The association is committed to collaborating with other business councils to drive long-term success. Kretzmann highlighted the complementary strengths of South Africa and Qatar, particularly in technology for the financial, agricultural, and sports sectors.

The networking brunch featured a panel discussion with representatives from the South Africans in Qatar Business Association and a presentation by Mr. Indica Amarasinghe of Startup Grind Qatar on enabling start-up ecosystems.

Brand South Africa was also in attendance and GM Global Markets presented BSA's proposition and spoke about how BSA, differentiates South Africa by framing it as a resilient, opportunity-rich gateway to Africa—offering not just economic advantages but a culturally vibrant partner in global progress.
