Qatar attends GCC Islamic Affairs Ministers meeting

Doha, Qatar: Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, participated in the Eleventh Meeting of Their Excellencies and Highnesses the Ministers responsible for Islamic Affairs and Endowments in GCC countries, which was held in Kuwait yesterday with the participation of the Ministers of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of the Council’s member states.

The Qatari delegation was headed by Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al-Ghanim. The delegation included H E Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, Undersecretary of the Ministry, Khalid bin Shaheen Al-Ghanim, Assistant Undersecretary for Islamic Affairs, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Marzooqi, Director General of the General Directorate of Awqaf, and Mohammed bin Jabr Al Mana’i, Director of the Islamic Affairs Department.

The meeting was inaugurated by H E Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Wasmi, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of Kuwait and Chairman of the current session of the Supreme Council of the GCC.

In his speech, he welcomed the Ministers participating in the meeting, conveying the greetings and appreciation of the leadership and people of Kuwait. He affirmed that these blessed fraternal meetings embody the visions and directives of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries, towards enhancing unity, integration, and rapprochement among member states in various fields.

He pointed out that the ministerial meetings for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, since their inception, have contributed to achieving pioneering accomplishments in areas of cooperation, coordination, and exchange of expertise, thereby promoting integration among the GCC countries and solidifying the sublime message of the GCC in achieving solidarity and serving the causes of the Islamic nation. During the sessions, the Ministers adopted a set of issues and topics of common importance, most notably: Exchanging scientific research and experiences in the field of Endowments (Awqaf) among member states through interactive seminars via visual communication technology; presenting distinguished experiences in the field of Islamic Affairs, and organising the Gulf Awqaf Week and the Gulf Week for the Protection of Religious and Moral Values of the Family; and establishing standards and controls for the success of the Imam’s social role, and preparing an intellectual security charter for the mosque Imam and its oversight indicators.

On the sidelines of the meeting, H E Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Wasmi, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of Kuwait and Chairman of the current session of the Supreme Council of the GCC, honoured the members of the Standing Working Committee for studying proposals. He also honoured Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, and Mohammed bin Jabr Al Mana’i, Director of the Islamic Affairs Department.
