Amir, Afghan President hold official talks

Doha: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan H E Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani held a session of official talks at the Amiri Diwan yesterday.

At the start of the session, the Amir welcomed the Afghan President and the accompanying delegation, expressing his confidence that this visit will contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.

For his part, the Afghan President expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Amir for the warm reception, and stressed the importance of relations between the two countries.

He also appreciated the State of Qatar’s hosting of the Afghan peace negotiations and praised the role of Qatar and its commitment to peace in his country and its efforts to host this round of negotiations in order to reach lasting peace.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and the means of developing and strengthening them in various fields. The talks also dealt with developments in Afghanistan in light of the Afghan peace negotiations currently underway in Doha, in order to achieve security, stability and peace in Afghanistan.

The meeting was attended by a number of Ministers, and from the Afghan side by members of the official delegation accompanying the President. An official reception was held for the President of Afghanistan upon his arrival at the Amiri Diwan. 

H H the Amir also hosted a luncheon banquet at the Amiri Diwan in honour of the Afghan President, and his accompanying delegation. The banquet was attended by a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs and ministers. 

The Afghan President left Doha yesterday evening. He was seen off at the Hamad International Airport by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi and the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the State of Qatar, H E Abdul Hakim Dalili.
