PARIS: His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani and His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of Qatar Olympic Committee, were present at the race meeting held yesterday as part of the events of the annual Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which will culminate tomorrow with the two mega races; the Qatar Arabian World Cup and the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Yesterday, main races of the eight race-card were Qatar de Prix Chardonnay, Qatar Arabian Trophy for Fillies and Haras de Bouquetot Qatar de Prix Chardonnay: Brundtland, instead of the Arc!

Brundtland justified his status as favourite with a storming finish in the Qatar de Prix Chaudenay (Gr2), giving his supporters a lot to cheer about in the final furlong, when Lillian Russell seemed to be gaining the upper hand.

However, the winner of the Qatar Prix de Niel (Gr2, preparation for the Arc) courageously challenged the filly to dominate at the finish. My Swashbuckler made a convincing effort to come in third place. Brundtland is an unexposed horse, remaining undefeated in his first four races.

Yesterday was his first time running over 3000 meters, his connections preferring this to an attempt the Arc de Triomphe where he would have lacked a bit of experience.

Qatar Arabian Trophy for Fillies (4-year-old fillies) : Al Shamoos on top of the pack

There was little suspense throughout the Qatar Arabian Trophy for Fillies ( 4-year-old fillies) (Gr1 PA). Al Shamoos jumped to take the lead early on and then kept putting daylight between herself and the pack, not stopping to pose for the cameras at the post !

Joudh weakened at the finish but won the race to be placed, coming in second. She made the right decision to stick with her stable companion Wadeeaa who led the way. Al Shamoos had just changed her colours, sporting the silks of the Cheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed and was coming off a second place, beaten by Belqees, who came fifth yesterday.

Haras de Bouquetot - Criterium for the Arqana October yearling sale : Master Brewer won big time Classe 1 race, but generously rewarded (€137.500 to the winner), the second edition of the Haras de Bouquetot – Criterium of the Arqana October yearling Sale was awarded to Master Brewer, who proved to be authoritative in the final phase. With a stylish finish, Edinson came to snatch 2nd place from La Yaki.

Master Brewer, being trained by Michael Bell, had not run since the end of July. He finished fourth in a Listed at Ascot, after having opened his scorecard for his second outing to Newmarket. The horse was sold at the Arqana October yearling sale (Sine qua non condition for entering in this race) for €85,000. He was presented by Coulonces Sales and was sold to Alex Elliott.
