DOHA: The eighth Korea-Arab Friendship Caravan will be staged at Katara Drama Theatre on Friday, featuring traditional Korean dance and B-Boy performance.
The traditional Korean dance will be performed by Gyeonggi Provincial Dance Company, which was established to develop Korea’s traditional dances and unique regional cultures and promote them overseas.
World-renowned Korean B-Boy team Expression Crew will perform ‘Marionette’, an innovative and exciting dance unique from other B-Boy performances as its grand choreography harmonises with various music.
Expression Crew was the first B-Boy team to win a world competition in Asia and continues to play a major role in promoting cultural exchanges.
Details of the show being organised by Katara, the Korean embassy and Korea-Arab Society were announced at a press conference at Katara yesterday.
Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said, “Organising similar events is aligned to the strategy of Cultural village to bridge the gap among cultures, introduce other civilisations and a valuable opportunity to strengthen Korea-Arab relations.
“Katara has hosted many Korean events that witnessed significant turnout such as Korean Cultural Week in 2103 and Korean Kite Festival.” Since 2008, the Caravan has been promoting mutual understanding and communication between Korea and Arab countries. It offers Korean cultural programmes, combining tradition and modernity to effectively introduce Korean culture and arts to the Arab region.
“This is an annual event hosted in Qatar, the UAE and Lebanon where visitors will get a glimpse about Korean culture and enjoy traditional food. Korean and Arab cultures share many similarities that mainly reside in shared food recipes, high sense of family values and respect to the elders,” said Korean Ambassador Park Heung-Kyeong.
