Pakistani, Indian Urdu scholars to be honoured

Doha: The 17th annual Aalmi Frogh-e-Urdu Adab Awards will be presented to Pakistan’s Nisar Aziz Butt and India’s Nand Kishore Vikram by Majlis Frogh-e-Urdu Adab, the Qatar-based literary form,  at a function at Sheraton Doha Al Majlis Auditorium on October 31.

The Minister of Culture, Arts & Heritage H E Dr Hamad Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari will be the Chief Guest. 

Launched in 1996, the Aalmi Frogh-e-Urdu Adab Award (International Award for Promotion of Urdu literature), which comprises a gold shield and Rs150,000, is given annually to two Urdu creative writers and scholars — one from India and the other from Pakistan — for their contribution to the promotion of Urdu language and literature. 

An international mushaira will be held on the sidelines, featuring top poets from India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and the US. A special souvenir will also be released.
