Doha: Minister of Finance H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari has co-chaired the first session of the Qatari-Swiss Joint Committee meeting held in Zurich, Switzerland with the Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Finance H E Ueli Maurer.

During the committee meeting, a series of proposals were discussed to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

This new partnership paves the way for strengthening and promoting financial and economic relations between both countries, as well as exchanging and coordinating various aspects of cooperation.

During the session, the Qatari-Swiss Joint Committee reviewed development in the economic field, digital finance and sustainable finance. A number of joint projects and a set of proposals to enhance cooperation and encourage joint investments in the fields of energy, communications, transport, tourism and banking were also discussed.

Also on the sidelines of the joint committee, Minister Al Kuwari met with his Swiss counterpart, where they discussed a number of projects, in addition to a set of proposals to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Al Kuwari also met with senior Swiss officials on the sidelines of the Qatari-Swiss Joint Committee.

The meetings were organised separately among others, with Guy Parmelin, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) and Thomas J. Jordan, Chairman of the governing board of the Swiss National Bank. During the event, the officials discussed bilateral relations and means to enhance them, and reviewed aspects of cooperation.

The ministerial meeting was followed by the program of the Technical Committee, which included the financial and economic aspect, headed on the Qatari side by Dr. Saud Abdullah Al Attiyah, Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance. The Swiss side was headed by H E Daniela Stoffel, Minister of State for International Financial Affairs.

The Qatari delegation participating in the Joint Committee in its first session included a number of senior officials of government and private agencies, including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, QatarEnergy, the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar, the General Tax Authority, the Public Works Authority, Katara Hospitality, Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Chamber, and Qatar Airways.

It may be noted that the Qatari-Swiss Joint Committee was a result of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Finance (MoF), with the Swiss Federal Council, represented by the Federal Financial Department in March.

The agreement included a joint cooperation to establish the joint committee concerned with the financial and economic fields, with the aim of developing and enhancing relations between the two countries, wherein joint meetings are held alternately in both countries.
