‘Qatar committed to rule of law’

Bangkok: Minister of Justice H E Dr Hassan bin Lahdan said yesterday that Qatar, under the leadership of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad 
Al Thani, was committed to the rule of law and understood its importance in achieving sustainable development. 
The minister was giving a speech during the Asian Society of International Law conference, which is taking place in Thailand. He said that Qatar was keen on participating in different conferences to exchange ideas and place policies and strategies that contribute to enhancing the rule of law on a regional and international scale.
The minister highlighted that Qatar National Vision 2030, which was established by the Emir, act as the guide to the country for the future and reflects the aspirations of the Qatari people. The minister also said that the role of the Ministry of Justice was to contribute to the vision by enhancing the rule of law through initiatives related to the legislative fields. 
The Minister praised the Asian Society of International Law conference, saying it played an active role in promoting dialogue on the rule of law and its relation to sustainable development. It also merged the idea of the rule of law and security as core requirements, the minister added.
The minister said that the current conference comes weeks after the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in Qatar, with its success welcomed by the international community by adopting the Doha declaration. QNA
