Doha: Boosting one's immune system plays an important role to combat and prevent any infection, most especially during this time of pandemic. In an infographic posted on Twitter, HMC recommends eating a balanced, healthy diet to help build and strengthen a child's immune system.

"Focus on foods that can help boost your child's immune system and foods that contain antioxidants," HMC stated.

Foods for a healthy and balanced diet include:

1. Foods that are rich in vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, broccoli, kiwifruit, strawberry, mango, and spinach

2. Foods that are rich in vitamin E, such as avocado, nuts and vegetable oil

3. Foods that are rich in vitamin A, such as liver, sweet potato, carrots, milk, and eggs (especially egg yolks)

4. Vegetables, especially leafy green vegetables, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and leek

5. Low-fat meat and seafood. Thyme, sesame and whole grains. Lentils, peas, and soybeans

Although a balanced and healthy diet includes consumption of nutritious meals, boosting immune system also ties with avoiding unhealthy food and snacks. These unhealthy snacks include sweets, carbonated drinks and more.

"Encourage your child to avoid sweets, carbonated drinks, and juices and replace them with water and herbal drinks like chamomile and anise," HMC tweeted.
