Doha: With a well-curated display of thought-provoking art installations, “Reflection” makes a compelling exhibition essential for both art lovers and wellness enthusiasts to see.

Hosted by Msheireb Downtown Doha, the show recently launched at AlHosh Gallery at Sikkat Al Wadi highlights nine larger-than-life installations focusing on the crucial subject of wellness.

The installations question people’s choices on living life amid the many challenges during these hard and unforgiving times, and offer important lessons ought to be learned by people trying to survive in today’s demanding world.

It is more than just an exhibition as most of the installations depict binary oppositions that inspire deep introspection into various facets of a person’s life such as sleep, food, fitness, work, knowledge, faith, and time. Using different materials, these well-thought-of multimedia pieces are effectively presented in diverse forms such as sculpture, video, and sonic installation.

Mirrors as a motif for the exhibition, which are ubiquitously present in almost every piece displayed throughout the venue, further reinforces the urgent message the show wants to convey to its audience.

At the end of the gallery is a graffiti wall made of mirror which prompts visitors to reflect and write what they have realized and learned during their visit.

The show also showcases paintings, sculptures and other visual art forms created by 15 Qatari and other Doha-based artists. They include works by Ahmed Nooh, Aisha Al Sulaiti, Bashir Al Ansary, Eslam Kamil, Essa Al Mulla, Haitham Al Hamad, Hassan Al Mulla, Humian Al Khater, Khalifa Al Obaidly, Mansour Al Shibani, Nour Abu Issa, Rasha Alem, Reem Al Thani, Swapana Namboodiri, and Yasser Al Mulla.

Qatari artist Fatma Al Naimi, curator of the exhibition, said the show intends to create a dialogue between artists and viewers through artworks that encourage reflection.

Organised by 974 Wellness, the unique month-long show also features “Reflection Talks” presented by Brain Trust and a Reflection Café. 974 Wellness is a startup company launched in 2020 and presents products and solutions worldwide that make the community’s lives better raising awareness on healthy living for comprehensive wellness.

The exhibition runs until February 28 and is open for viewing from Saturday to Thursday, from 9am to 9pm, and on Fridays from 4pm to 10pm at AlHosh Gallery.

Founded in 2008, AlHosh Gallery aims to highlight Qatari and Middle Eastern artists through exhibitions and art projects.
