DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has announced temporary closure of Wafi Gourmet, a restaurant inside Landmark Mall, for selling Samman fish as Hamour.
The outlet was closed for two weeks following an inspection campaign within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to monitor commercial activities and crack down on violations of consumer rights, price manipulation, counterfeit products and substandard goods.
The outlet was also fined in line with Article No. 7 of Law No. 8 of 2008 on consumer rights. The law stipulates that suppliers of goods must clearly display product labels and a clear description of goods and their ingredients and refrain from posting any misleading or false statements.
The restaurant was made to publish the administrative closure decision on the ministry’s website and in two newspapers at its expense in line with Article No. 3 of the law.

The ministry said it is determined to protect consumer rights and will intensify inspection campaigns to crack down on all violations of the consumer protection law.
The ministry said it will refer violators of laws and ministerial decrees to authorities for action.
It urged consumers to report to the Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department if they come cross any violations and send complaints and suggestions through hotline 16001 or email [email protected]
