Doha: The Katara Publishing House released its fifth magazine issue of Culture, which focused on the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: A confluence, not a clash of cultures.

The magazine is ‘Qatar’s first contemporary cultural guide’, and contains over 400 pages about Qatar’s heritage, culture and artistic events. The public can get it for free at the Katara Publishing House, Building 10. An online version is also available at kataraph.com.

Khalid Al Sayed, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine in his editorial titled “This World Cup has been more inclusive and conveys message of love and unity” said that: “Finally, the message of unity and love has won. In other words, the beautiful game of football has won.”

He added: “After 12 years of strenuous efforts and intense preparations, the 2022 World Cup started on 20 November with a spectacular opening ceremony at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. This has been called a historic World Cup for many reasons: this is the first time the biggest and the most watched sporting event in the world is being held in an Arab and Muslim country and Qatar is the smallest country to host this mega event.”

Executive Editor, Shaikha Hamad Ahmad Al Thani also touched on Qatar’s hosting the World Cup in his editorial entitled “World Cup Qatar 2022 provides a great window of opportunity for cultural entertainment.

“Since its inception, Culture has been successful in recording all of Qatar’s efforts and goals in fostering culture and constructing bridges that unite world cultures.

However, this special year of 2022 has become a great window of opportunity for cultural institutions to present Qatari culture to the entire world. It is both a refreshing and rewarding undertaking for Culture and its team to be at the forefront of learning about Qatar’s creative and cultural sector while presenting it to our readers.”

He also explained that the fifth edition of the magazine includes sports, art, literature and environment topics.

“Readers would be able to have an in-depth view of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This mega sporting event held in Qatar is a singular achievement that reminds us of the country’s unshakeable commitment to sports as a unifying force of cultures.”

Among the articles covered in the fifth issue are: The ‘Years of Culture’ Initiative: Fostering friendships through cultural connections; Al Wahda Arches: The tallest monument shaping the future while conserving the past; Al Fanar Islamic Cultural Centre: Spiralling upward to higher knowledge; and Meet Ahmad Al Baker – The Qatari filmmaker behind FIFA’s Hayya Hayya.
