Qatar, Italy discuss trade cooperation

Doha: Minister of Commerce and Industry and Acting Minister of Finance H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari met yesterday with H E Luigi Di Maio, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the accompanying delegation currently visiting the country.  

During the meeting, officials reviewed bilateral relations and discussed aspects of cooperation, especially in the sectors of trade, investment, and industrial, as well as ways to enhance and develop them. 

The meeting also featured a discussion on bilateral trade policies and the efforts exerted by both sides to confront the COVID-19 pandemic. The Minister of Commerce and Industry and the Acting Minister of Finance highlighted the economic policies established by Qatar to support the private sector. These policies included the incentives, legislations, and promising opportunities that were put in place to encourage investors, businessmen, and companies to invest in Qatar. Qatari-Italian bilateral trade reached around $2.16bn in 2020, and Italy ranks as Qatar’s eighth trade partner.
