GCC Women's Games kick off in Doha today

The 5th GCC Women's Games will be kick off today with an opening ceremony at the Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex.
The 11-day event will see 891 athletes representing Bahrain, Oman, UAE and the host country, Qatar taking part in the event.
 The Women's Games will be contested in ten different games namely basketball, handball, table tennis, volleyball, chess, athletics, archery, fencing, taekwondo and bowling.
Bahrain will be looking to complete a hat-trick having won the 2013 and 2015 Games held in Bahrain and Oman respectively.
President of Qatar Women Sport Committee (QWSC) Lulua Al Marri said that the opening ceremony will be 'simple and classy'.
Al Marri said that the committee had completed all preparation to host the GCC Women's Games,.
The event will be held under the patronage of H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
Competitions will be held on Aspire Dome, the Ladies Club in Aspire Zone, the Equestrian Federation, and Lusail Shooting Circuit, Qatar Sports Club, Qatar Bowling Center, and Qatar Chess Association.
Meanwhile the organizing committee of the event has been holding daily meeting for the last two months for the successful conduct of the event which is being held in Qatar for the first time.
