Thousands of people are expected to visit the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara come Tuesday to celebrate the National Sport Day (NSD).
As many as 54 public and private entities will participate in the NSD activities at Katara. This was announced in a press conference yesterday.
Government organizations and private companies confirmed to take part in the event include 17 sports federations, 15 ministries and government departments, 15 health institutions and food companies, according to organizers.
“The ninth National Sport Day celebration focuses more on community participation to allow people of all age groups to take part in sporting activities, whether they are common visitors, athletes, children, women or persons with special needs,” said Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara and Chairman of the NSD Organizing Committee, adding that this was in line with Katara’s efforts to spread sports awareness, promote healthy lifestyle and achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
Al Sulaiti stressed on Katara’s endeavours to promote awareness of sport as a way of life and to inculcate its values and culture in the hearts of all to realise its importance through the NSD which provides an opportunity to bring together all groups of society through sports.
He noted how Katara had turned into a favourite destination that embraces the various sports and programs and activities of ministries, official bodies and sports federations, and that because of its wide spaces and multiple facilities, it had had impressive experience in hosting major local and international sports tournaments.
Katara visitors at the NSD events, which will run from 7am to 5pm, will have the chance to have basic medical checkups and health advice.
As in the previous editions, thousands of citizens and residents are expected to enjoy different types of physical activity in a healthy and entertaining atmosphere.
Abdulrahman Al Tamimi, Director of Katara’s Purchasing Department and Head of the Organizing Committee, said there are 54 public and private entities participating in Katara’s NSD activities, while highlighting the facilities Katara provides to ministries, institutions, sports federations and health centers.
The 17 sports federations taking part in the celebration focus in the fields of boxing, wrestling, tennis, basketball, volleyball, football, sailing, rowing, table tennis and rugby. The public can take part in these games and special games. In addition, competitions and activities for children will also be organised.
Al Tamimi explained that this year’s NSD celebration offers many events and new features such as the air show presented by the Qatar Air Sports Committee and activities for persons with special needs, and performances and marine competitions that will be held on Katara Beach.
Katara will observe all safety and security standards for all participants during NSD event, through the presence of specialized medical teams from Hamad Medical Corporation and the Military Sports Association, he added.
Fifteen health and food companies will offer their services and advice free of charge to the public throughout the day.
