Doha: Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri met General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Sharan Burrow; Director of the International Labour Standards Department of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Corinne Varga; Regional Secretary at International Transport Workers Federation Bilal Malkawi, and UNI GlobalRepresentative Eddy Stam.
During the meeting, they discussed aspects of joint cooperation between the parties in issues related to fields of labour, and ways to support and develop them.
The Minister of Labour stressed that the close partnership between Qatar, ILO and many international organisations and labour unions contributed to the improvement of the work environment in Qatar. He commended the role played by the delegations of international organisations and labour unions in conveying the truth to the world.
Representatives of international labour federations affirmed that labour reforms in Qatar over the past ten years have been in line with the global labour sector reforms strategy.
They noted that there are many fundamental reforms that have taken place in Qatar over the past decade that have mainly contributed to improving the work environment.
