DOHA: Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are to be made part of the government procurement process as part of the state’s plans to bolster entrepreneurship and the SMEs.
State-owned Qatar Development Bank (QDB) is currently working with the Ministry of Finance to integrate the SMEs into the state procurement network. Government procurement refers to the act of obtaining goods and services for a public agency. In other words, it is all about government-related purchasing activity.
QDB Executive Chairman Abdulaziz Al Khalifa said that his bank and the Ministry of Finance have taken crucial steps to ensure the inclusion of Qatari SMEs in the state procurement process.
“This will create suitable environment for the development of the SMEs,” Al Khalifa told Al Sharq. He said QDB has successfully managed to make the local SMEs part of procurement process for Qatar Rail Company and Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).
“Backed by the success of our effort and experience we are now working with the finance ministry to the make the SMEs part of the overall state purchasing system,” the QDB boss said. The Peninsula
