Doha: High school students and their parents from around Qatar attended Discover Education City 2012, the two- day event which was held at the Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Center.

Discover Education City (DEC) is an event for high school students, their parents and school administrators to learn about some of the valuable higher education opportunities available in Qatar.

The event aims to reach out to high school students and assist them in understanding the admissions process relating to some of the universities at Education City.

Several information sessions, in both English and Arabic, were held as part of DEC’s programme and at different timings to accommodate all attending. These sessions present a short introduction to Hamad bin Khalifa University, its mission and goals, before introducing some of the universities, the student life experience and the admissions requirements.

The event’s highlight was the fair where prospective students met with representatives from the universities. Students and parents were provided with background information on the various programs being taught, a couple of which are new. Current Students were also on hand to discuss their experiences with prospective students.

The branch campuses of the following universities participated in this year’s event: Virginia Commonwealth University, Weill Cornell Medical College, Texas A & M University, Carnegie Mellon University, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and Northwestern University.
