Nepali community in Qatar concludes convention

Doha: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) National Coordination Council Qatar successfully held its 11th Convention in Doha, electing a new executive committee for the 2025–2027 term.

The event, held with grandeur and wide participation, saw Padam Giri elected unopposed as President, leading a 36-member executive team.

The convention, which takes place every two years, serves as a platform for the Nepali diaspora in Qatar to renew leadership and strengthen community engagement.

The newly elected committee was sworn in by Election Commissioner Kamalni Guragain, who administered the oath of office and confidentiality.

Padam Giri will lead the council alongside First Vice President: Roshan Aryal; Second Vice President: Subash Thapa; Third Vice President: Lila Rai; Women Vice President: Ram Kumari Tamang; Youth Vice President: Tank Bahadur BK; General Secretary: Shiva Bhujel; Treasurer: Prem Kumar Basnet; Assistant Treasurer: Mohammad Azad Mansur; Secretaries: Khemraj Subedi, Isilal Pandit, Shankarman Rai; Women Coordinator: Apsana Miya; and Youth Coordinator: Chham Bahadur Chand.

The executive committee also includes 19 members representing diverse sectors of the Nepali community in Qatar.

The event was attended by representatives from Qatar’s Ministry of Labor, including Salha Al Khalaf from the Labor Department, officials from the Ministry of Interior, leaders of other expatriate communities, advisors and honorary members of NRNA ICC, and representatives from various Nepali organizations in Qatar.

Distinguished guest Salha Al Khalaf, participating in the program, extended his best wishes to the newly elected team.

He stated that a meeting would be held with the committee in the near future to discuss upcoming programs and potential areas of collaboration.

Chief Guest Dr. Badri KC, President of the NRNA International Coordination Council, affirmed that this newly elected executive team is the official representative body of the organization’s Qatar chapter, which operates under the Government of Nepal.

He expressed confidence that the committee will function in accordance with the organisation’s constitution and will faithfully adhere to the directives of the ICC.

Others guests praised the organisation’s past contributions to social welfare and extended congratulations to the newly elected leadership.

The Non-Resident Nepali Association is a global umbrella organization for Nepalis living abroad, officially registered with Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

With a presence in 92 countries, the Qatar National Coordination Council is the second-largest globally.

Operating under the motto “For Nepalis, By Nepalis,” NRNA Qatar has been actively involved in social, cultural, and philanthropic initiatives.

The organization maintains close coordination with local government bodies, charitable institutions, and the Nepali Embassy in Qatar, while also collaborating with other expatriate communities.

Newly elected President Padam Giri is a seasoned leader who previously served two successful terms as General Secretary.

He is known for his institutional experience and collaborative work with other expatriate communities, including coordination with Qatar’s Supreme Council during FIFA 2022, and effective engagement with government agencies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He is widely respected as a prominent figure in the Nepali social landscape in Qatar.
