Palestine Cultural Festival kicks off at Katara

Doha:  The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara yesterday launched the Palestine Cultural Festival which features ten days filled with shows and activities celebrating Palestinian heritage.

Opened by Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, the festival’s launch witnessed the attendance of several dignitaries and diplomats, in addition to a large number of visitors from the Palestinian community in Qatar and other communities.

The festival includes daily shows at the Katara Drama Theatre which include the “Zajal” show which is a type of Palestinian poetry, folkloric Palestinian “Dabke” dance and operetta.

This year’s festival also features traditional Palestinian market displaying different traditional handicraft and offering authentic Palestinian cuisine.

The festival also introduces some young Palestinian talents such as Mohammed Basyouni who travelled all the way from Gaza to perform a repertoire of traditional Palestinian songs at the festival.

Besides, the festival features a puppet show for children explaining the Palestinian cause to raise awareness on the struggles of the Palestinian people.

The final day of the festival themed “Jerusalem Day’ will witness a show featuring renowned Palestinian musician Bassem Al Ashqar which will be one of several activities to celebrate the day of Jerusalem.
