Doha: The sixth edition of the Qatar National Hockey League will commence today at Al Rayyan Hockey Stadium.
This year seven teams will be competing for the top prize in the single leg round-robin matches.
The final is scheduled for May 24, informed Qatar Hockey Association.
Gateway Qatar, Shabab Qatar, Doha Hockey Club 1 and 2, Mesaieed Hockey Club, United Hockey Club and Wanderers are the seven teams which will be seen in action in the weekend matches.
Besides locally based players, a few teams are expected to bring in outstation players from Pakistan and India to play in the League.
Gateway Qatar won the title last year ending the three year reign of Wanderers.
The former champions who won the Residents League this year are hoping to regain the title after having won in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Today’s action begins with Shabab Qatar taking on Mesaieed Hockey Club.
Doha Hockey Club which is fielding two teams will clash in the second match of the day today
In the last match of the day, Wanderers take on United Hockey Club.
The Peninsula
