Doha: The winners of the 25th edition of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Holy Quran Contest were announced at a ceremony organised yesterday.
The contest-2018 was organised by the Steering Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, H E Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari, honoured the winners of the contest. Under the category of memorising holy Quran completely for citizens, five Qatari candidates named as winners.
In this category Amaturrahman Abdurrahim Tahan bagged first prize. Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Humri and Amina Abdurrahim Tahan received second and third prizes respectively. Maryam Mohamad Khalil Al Muraghi and Anas Al Mashhadani ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
Under special category for memorising holy Quran completely, Bangladeshi national, Usama Siddiqi Haji received first prize. Umar Abdul Qadir Saleem (Egyptian) and Wadah Khadar Al Khadar (Sudanese) bagged second and third prizes, respectively. For fourth and fifth prizes Aisha Umar Yousuf (Bangladeshi) and Ali Ahmad Momin (Egyptian) were selected respectively.
Under general category of memorising holy Quran completely, Sayed Islam Mohamad (Bangladeshi) received first prize. Ahmad Amar Farish (Egyptian) and Mohamad Hasan (Bangladeshi) bagged second and third prizes, respectively. Abdurrab Ahmad and Usama Akramullah who hailed from Bangladesh ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
“Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Holy Quran Contest was established 25 years ago to serve the holy Quran,” said Nasir bin Yousuf Al Sulaiti, Head of the Steering Committee of the Contest. He said that the contest encourage people specially youngsters to learn, recite and memorise holy Quran.
“The Steering Committee of the Contest has earmarked over QR2m for different categories. The prize money for complete memorising holy Quran is QR1.1m. The winner of first prize in this category will get QR100,000. The winners of second and third prizes will get QR85,000 and QR70,000 and the winners of fourth and fifth rank will get QR60,000 and QR50,000 respectively” said Al Sulaiti.
