The Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Doha organised the 1st Asian Table Tennis Ambassador Tournament at the Embassy of Brunei on December 2.
The tournament is also used by the ambassadors as a gathering to enhance their relations and cooperation.
The Dean of Asian Ambassador Group, Nordin Ahmad of Brunei Darussalam opened and appreciated the participants and the organising committee of the tournament.
The envoy congratulated on the success of the event and plans to hold another sport tournaments among Asian ambassadors such as bowling, badminton and other sport activities next year.
Ambassador Nordin who is also a Vice Chairman of Asean Community in Doha (ACD) added that the championship aimed was not for winning the tournament but for strengthening friendship among ambassadors.
There were 12 ambassadors attended the tournament while only 10 participating in the first Asian Table Tennis Ambassadors’ tournament. The trophies was provided by Ambassador Nordin.
The winner for the single match was Ambassador of China, Li Chen and the second winner is Indonesian Ambassador, Muhammad Basri Sidehabi. While in double match, the first winner was Ambassador Ashud Ahmed of Bangladesh and Ambassador of China while the second was Ambassador Nordin of Brunei Darussalam and Ambassador Park Heung-Kyeong of Korea. Ambassador Muhammad Basri Sidehabi conveyed his congratulations to the winners of the tournament. He said the tournament would not only strengthen networking among Asian Head of Representatives in Qatar but also as a part of multi-track diplomacy among Asian Embassy.
According to ACD working group member Boy Dharmawan, Serbian Ambassador, Jasminko Pozderac also attended the tournament as a coach for Asean Ambassadors.
The tournament ended with a photo session of Ambassadors to Qatar such as, Nordin Ahmad of Brunei Darussalam; Muhammad Basri Sidehabi of Indonesia; Jai S Sohan of Singapore ; Khisrav Sohibzoda of Tajikistan; Li Chen of China; Prof Ramesh Prasad Kairala of Nepal; Ashud Ahmed of Bangladesh; Park Heung-Kyeong of Korea; Nuran Niyazaliev of Kyrgyz; Seiichi Otsuka of Japan; Mohamad Ali Sobhani of Iran; and Jasminko Pozderac of Serbia.
