DOHA: The Ambassador of Spain to Qatar, Belén Alfaro, has said that the strong ties between Qatar and Spain in several areas will be further enhanced in the future.
Alfaro said that Spain is also looking forward to strengthen existing partnerships with Qatar in areas such as diplomacy, trade, education and culture.
Alfaro took over as new Ambassador on Thursday.
“Qatar and Spain are friendly countries. Both countries have enjoyed deep-rooted ties through the years. We are looking forward to enhance ties and strengthen our cooperation in all fields,” she said while speaking to media on Thursday. “We also want to encourage tourism and student exchange between Qatar and Spain,” she added speaking on the sidelines of a four-day Spanish Extravaganza Festival held at W Doha.
In bilateral trade, agro exports from Spain to Qatar increased 49 percent in the first eight months of this year.
Spanish exports to Qatar consist of construction materials, textiles, marble, furniture, fruits and vegetables, electronic equipment, automobiles, transportation equipment and machinery, among others.
“There is an upward of growing exports of Spanish products to Qatar because the products are good in quality and competitive,” said Alfaro.
Alfaro was a Minister Counsellor at the Mission of Spain to the UN and a Senior Counsellor for foreign policy with the Middle East and Mediterranean countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She has also served as Deputy Head at the Embassy of Spain in Pakistan, as a Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the EU and in several other positions in the Spanish
