Qatar tops Mideast in consumer rights
DOHA: Qatar has been selected as the best country in protection of consumer rights in the Middle East by the Middle East Excellence Award Institute. Youssef Saad Abdullah Al Suwaidi, head of the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce received the award at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the fifth GCC Municipalities and Smart Cities Conference held in Dubai.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce said yesterday that it is committed to implementing policies for consumer protection by creating awareness about products and services. Consumers are being educated on their rights and how to secure them. The ministry is pushing hard to curb illegal trade and monopoly. Middle East Excellence Award Institute confers awards annually for best achievements of municipalities and urban developments.
