DOHA: Fourteen local animal breading farms set up their outlets at Al Mazrouha livestock market during Eid Al Adha for the first time this year.
They sold 2,571 sheep and goats worth over QR3m and remained open for 12 hours to meet demand, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Environment.
The market aimed to provide opportunity for local breading farms to sell their products directly to customers and reduce pressure on the livestock market at Central Market. The farms provided sheep and goats at reasonable prices, offering Syrian sheep at QR1,000-QR1,400.
The slaughterhouse at Al Mazrouha livestock market scarified 877 goats and sheep during Eid Al Adha. Qatar’s Meat and Livestock company — Widam — also set up an outlet at Al Mazrouha market and provided Syrian and Jordanian sheep at subsidised rate of QR1,150 and QR1,050, respectively, to Qataris. By the end of Eid Al Adha festival, Al Mazrouha livestock market completed 10 months since it was opened last year, selling 10,529 sheep and goats worth about QR13.6m so far.
