DOHA: The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has opened a new “Mutawa office” at the Cuban Hospital in Dukhan that will provide religious and spiritual counselling to patients and their families. The new facility comes as part of HMC’s efforts to expand its experience of Mutawa offices to cover all its hospitals, said a statement yesterday.
Mutawa office provides services including religious incantation for patients and consultation on Islamic fatwa and jurisprudence for patients and their families.
It also gives advice on the importance of maintaining good personal health and wellbeing and participates in public awareness campaigns against evil habits that negatively affect personal and public health, like smoking.
Representatives of the Mutawa office will be present with Muslim patients going through their last moments, to help them recite the Islamic Shahada. The office also distributes educative materials on Islam to non Muslim patients and visitors.
The opening ceremony was attended by Phill Lween, executive director of the Cuban Hospital, Mohamed Amer Al Marri, assistant executive Director, Jaber Al Marri, acting administrative supervisor; Khloud Al Haithami, administrative supervisor, Nuha Abd Al Aziz, secretary to the assistant executive director and a host of medical staff of the hospital and representatives from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
