Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Fisheries Department, announced the start of the annual kingfish (Kanad) fishing ban.
In a social media post, the department said the ban will be in effect from August 15 to October 31 each year as part of efforts to conserve kingfish stocks and promote the sustainable management of the country's marine resources.
During the ban period, fishing for kingfish using fixed gillnets (mansab nets) is prohibited as well as the transport and trade of kingfish gillnets will not be permitted.
However, fishing for kingfish using hook and line will continue to be allowed throughout the ban period.
The Ministry noted that kingfish production reached approximately 3,484 tonnes in 2025.
