DOHA: The representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Yemen has launched a new project to improve livelihoods and support the standard of living for 4,060 beneficiaries from the poorest families in Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, Dhale, Hadhramaut, ‘Amran, and Al-Hudaydah, at a total cost of $488,000.
Under the project’s program, the breadwinners of 580 families receive training in income-generating craft and vocational skills. To empower and encourage the beneficiaries to engage in production and business activities, they are provided with the necessary tools and resources to work in sewing, carpentry, smartphone maintenance, fishing, resin art, and livestock breeding.
In a statement, Eng. Ahmed Hassan Sharaji, head of QRCS’s office in Yemen, said, “This is one of the livelihood projects aimed at helping the war-affected communities. By training individuals and creating new entrepreneurial opportunities, we are enhancing the resilience of the families in the face of challenges resulting from poor living conditions”.
“Over the past two years, QRCS had already implemented two similar projects, for the benefit of 1,279 families, at a cost of $694,944,” added Eng. Sharaji. “These projects had a clear impact on people’s lives, helping alleviate poverty, reduce dependence on aid, and achieve self-dependence in fulfilling the essential needs of beneficiary families”.
Everyday challenges, difficulties, and demands continue to threaten the stability of millions of Yemeni families due to the ongoing conflict, deteriorating services, rising prices, and increasing poverty and unemployment rates.
