Doha, Qatar: The College of Education at Qatar University (QU) concluded engaging workshops as part of its ongoing commitment to foster an integrated theoretical framework for education titled ‘Education and Good Life Initiative.’

The event aimed to create a model for an educational environment that contributes to the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical, and social development of the student and the preparation of an exemplary teacher capable of embodying educational and pedagogical values in their school and broader social environment.

The event was attended by Dr. Hessa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Dean of the College of Education at QU, and distinguished educators, researchers, policymakers, and experts in various fields related to education and students.

Dr. Hessa expressed admiration for the participants’ exceptional presence, highlighting their diverse backgrounds and valuable contributions. She also commended thoughtful and constructive discussions during the weeklong training workshops.

She emphasised the college’s dedication to constructing a well-rounded and inclusive educational curriculum through collaboration with the community. The curriculum draws inspiration and resilience from authentic Islamic values, aiming to nurture capable Muslim individuals who can adeptly navigate life challenges.

She stated, “It is our belief that education should not only provide knowledge, as our education is based on Islamic principles. We should design curricula that focus on learners and creative learning.” She added, “The initiative came in response to integrating education into teaching, and hence, the name.”

For his part, Ahmed Al Abadi, a second-year student at the College of Education, said, “Our presence at the Education College event (Education and Good Life) for five days as participants and organisers reinforced our understanding of education and the good life. It focused on five pillars: spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical, and social, which help students enjoy and live a good life filled with a comprehensive education emphasising all five pillars. These pillars are considered such a complete and integrated circle that we cannot abandon any of them or live a good life without them. This was achieved through discussion sessions with various experts in each pillar to gather different opinions and perspectives to truly reach the concept of education and a good life.

Rawiya Al Yahri, President of the Students Council at the College of Education (Female Division), stated, “I was delighted to participate in the Sustainable Education and Good Life initiative. It was a rich and beneficial experience in which we discussed the pillars of a good life during the five days. Undoubtedly, as students at the College of Education, we greatly benefited from these initiatives and hope they continue. We appreciate the college’s efforts and endeavour to develop students and create a good and healthy environment.”

The workshop is a platform to explore these vital dimensions and further integrate them into our educational practices, benefiting students and society.

The workshop attendees were left with renewed inspiration and equipped with valuable strategies and approaches to incorporate the five pillars of a good life into their education. The event’s success underscores QU’s commitment to providing a robust and transformative educational experience for its students and the broader community.
