Doha: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani left Doha yesterday, heading to the British capital, London, to participate in the coronation ceremony of H M King Charles III as King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

During the visit, Amir will hold official talks with British Prime Minister H E Rishi Sunak on the strategic relations between the two friendly countries and ways of developing them in all fields. Amir is accompanied by an official delegation.

King Charles III will be crowned tomorrow at Westminster Abbey, marking the 40th reigning monarch crowned there since 1066. The day of splendour will feature customs dating back more than 1,000 years, the BBC reported.

Clergymen will hand over the symbols of power, including the rod, the sceptre and the orb, to King Charles III. Bands and soldiers are expected to troop through the streets, with the new king and queen presumed to end the day on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to wave to the cheering crowds.

More than 2,200 people, including foreign delegations from 203 countries and about 100 heads of state, including several leaders and royals from the Middle East and North Africa, have confirmed their attendance for the coronation service at Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace officials disclosed earlier this week.
