DOHA: The Ministry of Interior has warned the public against using a fake mobile application named ‘Al Shurta Al Mujtamiya’ (Community Police), which claims to provide some online services of the ministry.
The downloadable app, at Apple Store, carries the logo of the Traffic Department and the Community Police at the ministry, apparently to draw people’s attention, Al Sharq reported yesterday, quoting a source at the ministry.
The public has been advised to avoid the application since it seeks personal information, which may be used for commercial frauds such as breaking into somebody’s online bank accounts.
“This particular app is not safe and the ministry’s apps, which are available at ‘Apple Store’ and Android’s ‘Play Store’ are secured as they can be activated only through SMS sent automatically to the user’s smartphone,” the source told the daily.
Metrash2 is the only application of the ministry available on Apple Store and Android phone users, and offers more than 40 online services.
