DOHA: The Minister of Environment H E Ahmed Amer Mohamed Al Humaidi has issued Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS) 2014, which will take effect three months after its publication in the official gazette.
The safety of workers engaged on construction sites is part of QCS. It is the fifth version of construction specifications launched last October.
The ministerial decision (No. 210 of 2014) issuing QCS 2014 says the ministry will work with state agencies to develop safety norms of highest international standards for construction workers.
Some 120 experts on nine committees and in seven teams have worked for years to prepare QCS 2014.
They consist of 311 articles into 29 chapters and cover building designs and other matters.
All buildings being constructed will need to be seismic and wind-proof.
They will be required to entry and exit points for people with special needs.
The ceilings and walls of buildings will have to have adequate insulation against sound and heat.
The specifications also refer to the age of buildings and the quality of construction materials being used, including steel, ready-mix and other.
The specifications say construction debris must be recycled. QCS say street lights must be changed and use bulbs that are energy-efficient.
Railways are included in QCS. One chapter is on railways and another on the quality of materials and construction.
Mandatory standards are to be developed for green buildings, QCS add, reports Al Sharq.
