Managing Partners of GCC’s Largest Immigration Firm, DM Consultants, Chetan Kumbhar and Vidisha Darpan, consider how residence and citizenship by investment programs have become a significant option for high-net-worth individuals based within Qatar.
The concept of dual citizenship is one that has rapidly grown since the start of the 20th century. The ability to travel freely, the ability to make use of opportunities in other countries without any restrictions, and most importantly, financial freedom are some of the key reasons why entrepreneurs, executives, and investors have been looking towards alternate citizenship and residence.
Over the past 2-3 years, we’ve seen a significant increase in the number of fielded enquiries for business immigration programs from Qatari nationals and residents. In fact, during the 1st half of 2021, there was a 50% increase in enquiries, which is considerably more than the global average of 40%, for the said period.
How has the immigration landscape in Qatar changed?
Business immigration is a concept that has for long been limited to wealthy people and that to in the developing markets. Coming to Qatar, alternative residence and citizenship programs have been seen by both nationals and residents within the country as an opportunity to build resilience in what is a volatile global environment. Up until a few years ago, Qatar’s immigration market was primarily dominated by skilled immigration. While the demand for such programs is still very much alive, with LMIA approved Work Permit Visa & Canadian Startup visa Programs being favourites among expatriates residing within Qatar, the lengthy waiting period of such programs have significantly contributed to the rising popularity of business immigration programs.
Available residence & citizenship by investment programs
Today, there are nearly 30 countries across the globe that are offering residence and/or citizenship by investment programs. DM Consultants is a government authorized citizenship by investment agent for as many as seven countries, including Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Turkey, St Lucia, Saint Kitts & Nevis, and Vanuatu. We are also an authorized agent for residency by investment programs offered by the US, UK, Canada, Greece, Portugal, and Australia. In addition to business immigration, we also cater to Skilled visa and Student visa requirements through our Qatar branch offices in Old Airport Road & West Bay.
How long does the process take?
The exact time for processing a business immigration program depends entirely on the program itself and the number of applicants. In most cases for citizenship by programs, one can receive their new passport & citizenship status within 3-6 months. On the other hand, residency by investment programs can take anywhere between 6-24 months based on the program itself.
