Envoys continue participating in Plant Million Tree initiative

Doha: Several ambassadors have participated in the Plant Million Tree initiative of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME). The Ambassadors planted trees in separate events organised by the Public Parks Department at MME. 

The envoys include Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Qatar H E Zhou Jian; Ambassador of Japan to Qatar, H E Kazuo Sunaga; Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Qatar H E Mehmet Mustafa Goksu and Ambassador of the Republic of Mali to Qatar, H E Cheick Ahmed Tidiany.

The ongoing initiative focuses on planting saplings of trees suited for the Qatari climate, such as Sidr, Ghaf, Samar, and many more. Under the initiative, trees are being planted along highways, industrial areas, sewage plants, treatment units and storage, rainwater harvesting sites, cities and municipal strips, public parks, schools, and residential complexes.

Plant Million Tree initiative was launched by the MME under Qatar’s commitment to the Paris Agreement, as trees have special significance in the environmental system. 

The initiative aims to promote biodiversity, take advantage of treated water for irrigation, improve the country’s air quality, and increase the green patch to reduce gas emissions. 

The initiative is open to all communities, institutions, governmental agencies, private sector, corporate sector, schools, educational entities, youth centers, sports clubs, and all citizens and expatriates.

The initiative is open to all communities, institutions, governmental agencies, private sector, corporate sector, schools, educational entities, youth centers, sports club, and all citizens and expatriates. Interested people, including individuals, companies, and organisations can register financially or in-kind support or scientific contribution via e-mail, the Ministry’s app on smartphones, and the initiative section at any mall.

The MME also launched a dedicated website https://www.mme.gov.qa/static/million-tree/ to boost the initiative’ Plant Million Tree’ where people can contribute to the initiative with different seedlings and pay online.
