‘Steel factory will continue to witness depth of Qatari-Algerian relations’

Algiers: Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Steel International and a member of the Board of Directors of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company, Khaled Ahmed Al Obaidli, confirmed that the company’s factory in Algeria will remain a witness to the depth of relations between Qatar and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and the two countries keenness to push it towards broader horizons. 

Al Obaidli said, in a speech this evening during the opening ceremony of the steel factory of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company the factory of the Algerian Qatari Steel Company, will remain for decades to come, a witness to the depth and solidity of the ties that unite Qatar and Algeria.

He noted that the cooperation taking place today in various fields between the two brotherly countries is a practical translation of the distinguished Qatari-Algerian relations, and praising the unlimited attention and support that this giant project received from the leaderships of the two brotherly countries.

Since the launch of its economic feasibility studies in 2013 to this day, this project has received unlimited support from the rational leaderships of the two countries, which enabled us to celebrate today the opening of one of the largest factories in the Arab world, he said.

Al Obaidli pointed out that this giant project combines the Qatar National Vision 2030 to diversify sources of income and investment based on solid economic foundations in non-oil sectors, he indicated Algeria’s development vision in achieving self-sufficiency and exporting to global markets. 

Noting that the factory of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company produces about two million tons annually of iron products in its first phase and its production will reach 4 million tons annually after the completion of its second phase.

He also pointed out that the number of workers in the factory currently reaches more than 2,400 employees. 

It is expected that the total number, after the completion of the two phases, will reach 4,000.

He also pointed out that the factory provides a high-quality environmentally friendly steel product after the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company was able to obtain international certificates in this field.

For his part, CEO of IMETAL Group Tarik Bouslama, the Algerian partner in the company, said that the new facility was the pride of Qatari-Algerian partnership. 

He said that the plant has become a national and regional industrial landmark, thanks to producing two million tons with investments worth $2bn. 

He also noted that the plant produced 200 thousand tons of high-quality steel.
