Qatar banking sector assets rises 0.4% to QR1.835trillion in September

Doha: Qatar banking sector’s total assets increased by 0.4 percent MoM (0.4 percent in 2022) in September to reach QR1.835 trillion according to a media communique. 

The banking sector’s total loan book declined by 0.4 percent MoM (-0.2 percent in 2022) and deposits went down by 0.8percent MoM (-0.9 percent in 2022) in September. The public sector mainly caused the credit decline (down 2.1 percent MoM in September). As deposits moved down by 0.8 percent in September, the LDR rose to 125.8percent vs. 125.2percent in August 2022. 

The overall loan book declined by 0.4 percent in September 2022. Domestic Public Sector loans moved lower by 2.1 percent MoM (-6.5 percent in 2022). 

The government segment (represents ~31 percent of public sector loans) fell by 6.8 percent MoM (-23.7% in 2022), while the semi-government institutions’ segment dropped by 7.6percent MoM (+2.2 percent in 2022). However, the government institutions’ segment (represents ~64percent of public sector loans) loan book increased by 0.8 percent MoM (+3.9% in 2022).  Total Private Sector loans moved up by 0.5 percent MoM (+3.7percent in 2022) in September 2022. 

The Services segment and Real Estate mainly contributed toward the private sector loan growth for the month of September 2022. Services (contributes ~29% to private sector loans) increased by 0.7 percent MoM (+5.4 percent in 2022). 

Real Estate segment (contributes ~21% to private sector loans) went up by 0.7 percent MoM (+5.7 percent in 2022). 

General Trade (contributes ~21% to private sector loans) gained 0.5 percent MoM (+1.1 percent in 2022), while Consumption & Others (contributes ~22 percent to private sector loans) moved down marginally by 0.01 percent MoM (+4.5 percent in 2022) during the month of September 2022. Outside Qatar loans went down by 1.8 percent MoM (-8.9% in 2022) during the month of September 2022.   Public sector deposits declined by 1.3 percent MoM (+12.5 percent in 2022) for the month of September 2022, resulting in the overall drop in the Qatar Banking Sector deposits. Looking at segment details, the government segment (represents ~27 percent of public sector deposits) fell by 15.1 percent MoM (-13.5% in 2022). 

However, the government institutions’ segment (represents ~58% of public sector deposits) moved up by 5.1% MoM (+23.7% in 2022), while the semi-government institutions’ segment went up by 4.0% MoM (+37.1 percent in 2022).
