Doha: Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), a Qatar Foundation partner university, held a special online event to honour the students whose hard work and outstanding academic skills earned them a place on the Dean’s list.
The Dean’s list is a recognition of superior academic performance and only students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, qualify. Of the 119 students who qualified to the Dean’s list in the Fall semester, 2021, 32 are from the Art Foundation program, 20 from the Art History program, 8 from the Fashion Design program, 30 from the Graphic Design program, 17 from the Interior Design program, and 12 are from the Painting + Printmaking program.
Across the global higher education sector, inclusion in a university’s Dean’s list is a recognition of a student’s commitment to hard work and academic excellence. At VCUarts Qatar, this selection takes place bi-annually, and is followed by a celebration to felicitate the recipients. This year, due to pandemic, the event, which traditionally includes a luncheon with family and friends, took place remotely.

Dean of VCUarts Qatar Amir Berbić congratulated the students, saying, “The shift from school to university is always a challenge, and even more so in the face of all the extra safety and health restrictions necessitated by a pandemic. The fact that despite all these restrictions you achieved this distinction so early on in your university life says a lot about your determination, and passion in what you’re doing.
“As members of the Dean’s List, you’re next in the line of standard bearers for future generations of students. We are looking forward to see what you do next – first as students here at VCUarts Qatar, and eventually as changemakers in the wider community.”
