DOHA: Images of public places devoid of people captured by renowned Italian photographer Massimo Listri are on display at his first solo exhibition in Qatar which opened yesterday in Katara.
The 20 photos of interiors of famous auditoriums, museums, libraries, palaces evoke a feeling of tranquillity and peace to every viewer. “I take photos of interiors without people, only space,” explains Listri on his fascination of the subject. He started professional photography at age 17, he told this daily, adding in the last ten years he had focused on exhibiting his work in many countries around the world such as Austria, Brazil, Russia, Colombia, Mexico and the UK, bringing him to Qatar.
“Exhibiting my work here is a good opportunity. Doha is a fantastic city and the space is beautiful. Hopefully I can have a bigger show here in the future,” he said.
Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti considers the expo “one of the best exhibitions we have ever done in Katara.”
“It consists of many photos of heritage buildings taken from all over the world. These photos were produced by one of the top photographers in the world. I hope the visitors will enjoy this exhibition,” said Dr Al Sulaiti. It is part of Katara’s plan to bring artists from various corners of the world as a cultural hub, he said. “Two weeks ago, there was an exhibition in the same building for Georgia, now it’s for Italy and yesterday in Building 13 we opened an expo of famous Iraqi artist Ahmad Alawy. Katara doesn’t focus on only one culture, it brings other cultures together.”
