DOHA: An explosion in the underground tank of a petrol station on C-Ring Road on Saturday has sparked calls to enhance safety measures at petrol pumps and move them from residential areas.
Several CMC members have called on authorities to ensure safety, take action to avoid a repetition of such mishaps and minimise the damage, reported Al Sharq.
They have demanded that authorities take an urgent decision to shut down and relocate all petrol stations located near residential areas. Some have described these petrol stations as tricking bombs which could blast at any time. CMC members suggest that authorities should inspect petrol stations frequently.
Mishal Al Hohim, a CMC member from Al Hilal, said that the safety of neighbourhoods around petrol stations should be taken seriously as any mishap there might lead to huge damage.
Abdulla Al Sulaiti, another CMC member, suggested that shops at petrol stations should also be removed.
