Doha, Qatar: The Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Mozambique H E Margarida Adamugi Talapa, visited the Imam Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab Mosque as part of the “Mosque Visits” programme organised by the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to promote Islamic culture and Qatari identity.
The visit took place during the Speaker’s official visit to Qatar and was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique to the State of Qatar H E Isac Mamudo Massamby, as well as ,Assistant Director of the Islamic Cultural Centre Sultan bin Saad Al Badr.
The “Mosque Visits” programme is one of the centre’s key initiatives aimed at introducing official delegations and international visitors to the role of mosques in Islamic society while highlighting Qatar’s efforts to foster cultural dialogue and showcase the country’s Islamic heritage.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to strengthen intercultural engagement and promote the values of tolerance, coexistence and mutual understanding. Through guided visits, participants learn about the role of mosques not only as places of worship but also as centres of spiritual, social and cultural life.
During the tour, the Mozambican parliamentary speaker was introduced to the architectural features of the Imam Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab Mosque, which reflects traditional Qatari architectural design and harmonises with the local environment. She also visited the mosque’s prayer hall and library and received an overview of its religious, educational and community activities that support the promotion of Islamic values.
The Speaker expressed interest in learning more about the mosque’s educational and social programmes and discussed its role in serving the community, reflecting her appreciation for the contribution of such institutions to society.
At the conclusion of the visit, Talapa praised the organisation of the programme by the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre and commended its efforts to introduce Islamic culture and promote a deeper understanding of Islam and its civilisational values among non-Muslims.
Ambassador Massamby also expressed his appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its role in strengthening cooperation, friendship and mutual understanding between peoples.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs said the visit reflects the continuing efforts of the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre to reinforce Qatar’s position as a hub for cultural dialogue and international engagement, in line with the country’s vision of promoting coexistence and building bridges of understanding between cultures.
