Paris: The French presidency rejected a request for political asylum from WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange,
who is taking refuge in the Ecuador embassy in London
In a statement issued today the Elysee Palace said Assange could not be granted asylum given the legal ramifications , adding that he is in no immediate danger.
The Swedish Director of Public Prosecution opened an investigation into sexual offences that Assange is alleged to have committed. In 2012, facing extradition to Sweden, he sought refuge at the Embassy of Ecuador in London and was granted political asylum by Ecuador.
