Doha: Ambassador of Australia to Qatar H E Jonathan Muir accompanied by Deputy Head of the Mission Lachlan McLeod, has visited the newly opened office of Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter (EAQC) in Tornado Tower, West Bay.
During the visit, the Ambassador and his Deputy expressed his pleasure over the facility leased by EAQC for its operations. Mahmoud Fahmy, the President of the EAQC briefed the Ambassador and his Deputy of the progress achieved by EAQC over the past six months.
He said one of the challenges EAQC faced, during the period is the registration process of the EAQC entity in Qatar and stressed the process is on track with the signing of the lease agreement. He expressed confidence that EAQC will be a fully registered body within the next three months.
Tamer Naguib, Deputy President of the EAQC, highlighted that over the past five months, the EAQC has conducted various online seminars in partnership with other engineering bodies such as RICS and Qatar Green Building Council, and received overwhelming response. Currently, due to prevalent pandemic conditions, the seminars are conducted virtually and he hoped once the situation permits, these seminars will be conducted in person.
“We have taken a proactive approach to our expansion strategy, which includes but not limited to membership drive, conducting engineering seminars and partnering with other Engineering bodies. EAQC also plans to sign an MoU with The Institute of Engineers India (IEI) and a signing ceremony is planned on June 23, 2021, possibly in the presence of Indian and Australian Ambassadors”, said Asif Rahmany, Secretary of the EAQC.
The Ambassador and his deputy expressed satisfaction at the progressed by EAQC over the past six months, especially in view of constraints faced by everyone during the pandemic, and committed his support to Engineers Australia, Qatar Chapter as and when necessary.
