Renowned calligrapher visits Doha Academy

DOHA: Doha Academy Al Waab welcomed a distinguished guest, Haji Noor Deen Mi Guangjiang, a world renowned Arabic and Chinese calligrapher on May 22.

He is a lecturer of Arabic Calligraphy at the Islamic College inZhen Zhou, China and a researcher in Islamic cultures at the Henan Academy of Sciences, Zhen Zhou. He Lectures on Islam in China and participated in a number of workshops and talks on Arabic Calligraphy worldwide, including at Harvard University, USA; the University of Cambridge, UK; and the Globe Theatre.

Doha Academy’s Secondary students had the great privilege of attending an inspiring presentation and demonstration by Haji Noor Deen which was held in Doha Academy’s auditorium. Haji Noor Deen’s, artwork is known for its beauty and complexity. 

Doha Academy’s students were in complete awe as Haji Noor Deen demonstrated his exquisite mastery of calligraphy. Students were given the opportunity to practice their own calligraphy under his expert eye and viewed a special exhibition of  Haji Noor Deen’s unique and intricate pieces of art. 

Sheikha Anwar bint Nawaf Al Thani, a special guest attending the event, said, “The event was amazing, and the amount of enthusiasm and interest shown by Doha Academy students was outstanding, I feel it’s of great importance to provide such cultural opportunities to our students.”

During his visit, Haji Noor Deen met with Dr Sheikha Aisha Bint Faleh Al Thani, the Chairperson of Al Faleh Group for Educational and Academic Services, of which Doha Academy is a part.  Dr Sheikha Aisha thanked Haji Noor Deen and chatted about future plans to sponsor further events next year in conjunction with AFG College with the University of Aberdeen and Doha Academy.
