Doha: Ibin Ajayan Projects-Asian Town, one of the prominent business groups in Qatar, is poised to launch a T20 cricket tournament jointly with How Automobile Center to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan this year.
The tournament will be launched on June 10 at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium next to Grand Mall.
“For this truly blessed month we are pleased to be offering a healthy lifestyle in a fun manner to sport lovers to enjoy throughout the month of Ramadan. Ibin Ajayan Projects and How Automobile Center would like to wish all residents of Qatar a month filled with joy and happiness,” said Mohammed Mahdi Ajayan Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Ibin Ajayan group of companies and the Tournament Organiser.
As part of its Ramadan preparations this year, Lagan Cricket Club will conduct this limited-over tournament with the participation of 18 teams that will be split into two groups of nine each.
The groups will play round robin league matches against each other during the preliminary rounds while the semi-finalists and the finalists will be decided through knockout performances. The flood-lit matches will be held every day, commencing from June 10 and extending till July 15.
“Our aim is to craft the cricket community in Qatar by promoting the game. This tournament is one of the first steps to achieve our goal. I believe that cricket has a wonderful future in Qatar together with soccer. I request all to support us to fulfill this aim by playing and cheering up for their favorite teams. This will
be a great beginning for cricket during the Holy Month,” Al Ahbabi said.
The event is expected to be a recurring annual event in the history of Ibin Ajayan Projects and How Automobile Center. The 2015 tournament is organised by Laggan Cricket Club, one of the active cricket clubs in Qatar, in association with Asian Town. The event is coordinated by Qbiz Events, one of the pioneers in the event industry in Qatar.
The participating teams are permitted to recruit five team members, as per their
choice, leaving scope for talented international cricketers to showcase their talents.
